The Hindu festival called "Navratri" meaning 9 nights, was quite an experience!
We had 9 straight nights of very loud music and dancing until almost midnight at our apartment. I went down one evening to take pictures and watch them celebrate. These women mainly just hung out and watched the younger one's dance all night!
One of the nights I went with some friends to see the Navatri celebration at the local fairground. It was overwhelming for many reasons. The masses of people, the loud music...the reason they were all gathered. I encourage you to view the video clip from this event.
About half of our apartment community decorated for the Hindu holiday, Diwali. It felt almost like Christmas with all the festivities!
Traditionally, people will make these "Rangoli's" in front of their doors as a decoration to enhance the beauty of their home for Diwali. They are drawings made with colored powder poured from your hand!! Its very beautiful.
Our community had a "Rungoli" competition. This one was made by the girl in the photo...she is only in the 7th grade! Isn't it amazing??
This one was tied for first place.....can you see both pictures?
This was the other 1st place picture. One of my dearest friend's son who is 18 made this one. He said it ONLY took him 16 hours!
We celebrated Brian's 33rd birthday last week! It was great fun!
Swingin' with our new friends! It's been so nice to have friends so close in age! We get together weekly for fellowship! ;0)
Joisah (and Hanna's) new favorite thing to do...Make tunnels with the couches! Its great, except we are not allowed to ever take it down! hahahha
